Farm Manager

The company is an avocado & coffee farm plantation, which has been operational for the last one hundred and three years. It mainly exports avocado & coffee, in bulk, to Europe and the Middle East.
The company also has various certifications, such as Rainforest Alliance Certification, which ensures that strict health, safety, social welfare, and quality are defined and maintained.
Job Description
The successful candidate will oversee day-to-day operations, including planting, harvesting, irrigation, pest control and overall crop management. The ideal candidate Must have a minimum of 10 years’ experience in farm management. Strong background in avocado (Hass and Fuerte) farming and management, coffee farming and management, horticulture farming and management, and livestock. (Each area of expertise has been listed based on its importance).
Responsibilities
- Oversee day-to-day operations, including planting, harvesting, irrigation, pest control, and overall crop management.
- Provide expert advice on soil management, crop selection, planting techniques, and disease control to optimize yields and quality.
- Develop and manage budgets, plan crop rotations, and strategize to ensure profitability while maintaining sustainability.
- Ensure that crop yield targets and harvest cost targets are consistently hit.
- Supervise and train farm workers, fostering a culture of productivity, safety, and efficiency.
- Maintain accurate records of farming activities, expenses, yields, and any other relevant data for analysis and decision-making.
- Explore and implement innovative solutions that can enhance productivity and efficiency on the farm.
- Ensure sustainable farming practices are carried throughout all farming activities.
Qualification
- Bachelor’s degree in Agriculture, Agronomy, and Horticulture, etc. Proven experience (10+ years) in farm management.
- Having strong agronomy knowledge of avocados (Hass and Fuerte) is a requirement.
- Strong agronomy knowledge of coffee, and knowledge/experience with livestock handling and horticulture farming, is an added advantage. Strong knowledge of crop production techniques, soil management practices, and agricultural machinery operation.
- Fluency in both English and Swahili is a must.
- Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively manage a diverse team.
- Sound decision-making abilities, problem-solving skills, and attention to detail.
- Familiarity with agricultural regulations, safety standards, and best practices.
- Proficiency in computer applications for communication, record keeping, data analysis, and farm management software.
- Flexibility to work long hours, weekends, and holidays as needed, especially during peak seasons.
- Valid driver’s license and willingness to travel within the region as required.
- Excellent time management and organization skills, allowing one to work independently and keep to deadlines.
